James E. Carter, MD, PhD.
Women's Health Center of South Orange County
Mission Viejo, CA.
Patient History
A 31-year-old woman, gravida 1 and parous 1, experienced severe pain with intercourse. The pain was
reproduced during a physical exam with pressure on the cervix.
Diagnostic Laparoscopy
Laparoscopic examination revealed a retroverted uterus with no evidence of endometriosis.
Procedure
The round ligaments were invested with a non-absorbable suture and fixed to the lateral abdominal
fascia to form secure fixation points. Movement of the cervix failed to reproduce the pain that was previously experienced.
Clinical Results
Discomfort with intercourse ceased, and movement of the cervix failed to reproduce the pain that was previously experienced.
