UPLIFT Procedure: Mild Endometriosis and a Retroverted Uterus

Patient History
A 38-year-old nulliparous woman experienced severe pain with intercourse and pain with her periods
which started prior to her periods. Pain with periods was rated a 10 with "0" being no pain at all and
"10" the worst pain ever experienced. Pain with intercourse was rated a 9.
The patient had undergone laparoscopic treatment for endometriosis three times with no pain relief.
Additionally, she took narcotic medications during her periods and avoided intercourse.
Physical Examination
Physical examination revealed significant uterine retroversion. the exact pain experienced during intercourse
was reproduced by palpation and physical examination of the cervix and uterus.
Diagnostic Laparoscopy
A severely retroverted uterus with mild endometriosis in the cul-de-sac and on the ovaries were found during laparoscopic examination.
Procedure
The mild implants of endometriosis were vaporized via laser, and the UPLIFT procedure was performed.
Clinical Results
Both pain during periods and intercourse were reduced. Pain with intercourse was reduced from a 9 prior
to treatment to a 2 after treatment. Pain during periods was reduced from a 10 prior to treatment to a 3.
