Inlet Medical, Inc. Introduces the AVESTA™ Procedure Kit at the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists Congress November 20-24.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Inlet Medical Inc., a privately held medical device company that develops and markets products for pelvic reconstructive surgery in women, has introduced AVESTA™, a laparoscopic surgical procedure kit that can be used to shorten and strengthen the uterosacral ligaments to support the vagina in post-hysterectomy patients. Weakened ligaments can lead to a variety of gynecological problems.

"We are pleased to introduce the AVESTA procedure kit, the fourth kit in Inlet's product line to treat women's gynecological problems," said Lee Jones, president and CEO of Inlet Medical. "The AVESTA procedure kit is designed to make it faster and easier for surgeons to reattach and/or shorten and strengthen the uterosacral ligaments during vaginal vault suspension post-hysterectomy, a common surgical procedure. It simplifies the suturing process, making this type of surgery accessible to more surgeons."

More than 600,000 hysterectomies have been performed annually in the United States in the past decade. Inlet Medical believes the total potential market for its AVESTA product is greater than $1 billion in the United States.

The AVESTA procedure kit has 510(k) marketing clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is reimbursed under existing procedure codes for physician and hospital fees. A marketing clinical study of the AVESTA procedure is currently under way at five medical centers across the nation to document patient symptom improvement and surgical efficiency.
