ELEVEST™ Simplifies a Common Surgical Technique
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Inlet Medical Inc., a privately held medical device company that develops and markets
products for pelvic reconstructive surgery for women, has introduced ELEVEST(TM), a laparoscopic surgical procedure kit that can be
used in conjunction with routine surgical procedures to shorten and strengthen the uterosacral ligaments. These ligaments support the
pelvic organs, and weakened ligaments can lead to a variety of gynecological problems.
"We are pleased to introduce the ELEVEST procedure kit, the third kit in Inlet's product line to treat women's gynecological problems," said
Lee Jones, president and CEO of Inlet Medical. "The ELEVEST procedure is designed to make it faster, simpler and easier for surgeons to reinforce
the uterosacral ligaments, a common surgical procedure.
Women who are undergoing a hysterectomy, or who want an alternative to a hysterectomy may benefit from this procedure."
Each year in the United States, more than $1 billion is spent on surgery for pelvic organ prolapse,
and hysterectomies are the most common procedure. In most of these surgeries, the uterosacral ligaments,
the support structure for the pelvic organs, are reconstructed or reinforced to prevent future complications.
ELEVEST allows surgeons to perform this laparoscopic surgical procedure faster and more easily.
The ELEVEST procedure kit received 510(k) marketing clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in September. A clinical study
of the ELEVEST procedure is scheduled to begin in late November. The study will be a multi-center prospective study to document patient
symptom improvement and surgical efficiency.
