Laparoscopic Surgery Kit Also Featured in Award-Winning Video
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ - Inlet Medical Inc., a privately held medical device company that
develops and markets products for pelvic reconstructive surgery for women, today announced that its ELEVEST®
laparoscopic surgical procedure kit earned an honorable mention from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) in the
organization's annual Laparoscopic Gynecological Device of the Year Awards. The awards program recognizes the most innovative
products of the past year that have a multidisciplinary application in minimally invasive surgery. Inlet Medical received the
award at the SLS 12th International Congress and Endo Expo, recently held in Las Vegas.
"We are very proud and honored that the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons has recognized our efforts to provide
best-in-class surgical products for the women's health market," said Lee Jones, president and chief executive officer,
Inlet Medical. "With the ELEVEST laparoscopic kit, doctors can finally offer an alternative treatment to women who suffer
from uterine prolapse without doing a hysterectomy."
The ELEVEST kit was further honored at the SLS conference Endo Expo when Dr. James
Presthus, a gynecological surgeon from Edina, Minn., received the Best Gynecology Video Award for his video,
"ELEVEST, A New Treatment for Uterine Prolapse Repair."
Uterine prolapse occurs when the uterus drops from the normal position in the pelvic cavity and descends toward or
into the vagina. Using the ELEVEST procedure kit, both the round and uterosacral ligaments are shortened and strengthened
to restore the uterus to its normal position. The minimally invasive procedure, which is performed through small openings
in the abdomen, maintains the normal alignment of the pelvic organs and should not affect sexual function. Each year in
the United States, more than $1 billion is spent on surgery for pelvic organ prolapse, and hysterectomies are the most
common procedure.
